In the afternoon hours of a sunny London day Cygan the Robot gets moved in to the auction crowd. The 1950’s Robot amazed the audience and the fierce bidding started!
The Auctioneers estimated a merger £8,000 - £12,000 for Robot, but Cygan smashed the records and attracted £17,500 at Christie’s auction.
The 8ft tall Italian Robot has 300,000 parts and was the most advanced technology in the world, back in the 1950’s. He is able to go backwards and forwards, and has powerful hands to crush drink cans with it’s hands.
The auction house Christie’s told Robot Center, that the buyer was unnamed.
Robot Center see’s Cygan as another robot similar to the Aldebaran Nao’s Robot and a 50 year old version of the concept that everyone will have a Robot helper in their home one day.
A group called Playful Leeds was one of the bidder’s, who were hoping to win the Robot so it could be used to welcome visitors and help attract visitors to the city.
Cygan was constructed and designed by Fiorito and was a aeromodeller from Turin.
Christie’s auction sold Cygan as part of an auction lot called Out of the Ordinary.
